Carer Supplement

The Carer Supplement is an annual lump sum payment to assist the carer with the associated costs of caring for a person.

To qualify for the Carer Supplement, the carer must be a recipient of the Carer Allowance, Carer Payment or other social security income support payments, such as the Wife Pension or Department of Veterans’ Affairs Carer Service Pension.

Furthermore, more than one Carer Supplement may be available. For example, the carer can receive the Carer Supplement for an eligible income support payment and for each person that they also receive Carer Allowance for.

There is no income or assets tests required for the Carer Supplement. The Carer Supplement is paid in addition to the carer’s Carer Allowance and other social security income support payments they may receive.
