2 Your Beliefs on Money
Identifying beliefs through language
The language you use around money is one of the looking glasses you can use to identify your money beliefs.
An exercise in identifying beliefs
Starting each sentence with 'I should…' write five sentences about money. Such as 'I should save more money', or 'I should work 40 hours a week', or 'I should invest more for my retirement'. Don't start the sentence with 'I should not…...'.
Read your sentences and make a note of how you feel.
You may like to repeat this exercise, but this time start each sentence with 'I believe my wife (or husband, son, daughter, mother, father, friend, colleague, etc) should ……' finishing each sentence with something to do with money.
Read these sentences and make a note of how you feel.
